Primo our new Chihuahua with our cat

Having a hard time maintaining my love affair with Premo, my Chi. I have only had my Chi for 2-3 months. He's 8 months old. I am having problems with him trying to be the "boss" of my 20 lb Turkish Van cat. The cat is 2 years old. They fight constantly. The cat who used to be loving is now getting mean because of the Chi. Attached is a photo of what I'm talking about. I'm afraid the Chi is going to get hurt. The cat is front declawed and has now become a biter. With regard to food and treats, I try and separate them when they eat, but they both eat part of their food and then check out what each other has. The fighting is really getting to me.
The cat tries to get in my lap, and the Chi chases him away from me. The Chi even growls at my husband when he kisses me goodnight or goodbye. I've been trying to train him to sit, down and stay. Premo will only do the commands on the rug, and only if he sees treats. When I tell him to sit, he goes in the down position. If I tell him down, he sits! And he only stays for a few seconds.
Premo came from a family that wasn't home all day. When he was a puppy, he asked to go outside and potty.
But then the family ignored his wanting to go outside to potty and pottied in the house, under the bed, and anywhere he likes. So I'm having to try to break that bad habit. He doesn't bark to go out. He will lick my leg to ask to go outside sometimes. You really have to be paying attention to his quirky requests to go out.

Any advice you can give me to keep me sane would be greatly appreciated.

Tucker my saving Chihuahua

Tucker (Cherokee Cloud) -my loved oneMy little man's name is Cherokee Cloud (Tucker) he was born Sept 2, 2009 Here are two pic of him one when I brought him home and one of him now.  He was supposed to be a tea cup but as you can see he's bigger than a big gulp.  But that doesent matter to me I love him just the same.  He has brought me so much joy, I had lost my best friend and lover for the past 3 yrs and when Paul Tucker died a part of me did also but my Tucker reminds me so much of Paul its scary.  He love to give hugs and kisses.  He is so smart he already knows how to sit up say please find things and of course he knows how to hide them also.  I laugh at him everyday he loves to run I can say run Tucker and he runs all over the house it a game to him.  So as you can tell I would die for my Tucker.  And if it were not for him I might not be here today. Hope you like the pic

Chihuahua family in triplicate.

Heidi,Joey and Louie the Chihuahua familyThis is a recent picture of my 3 Chihuahuas! Louie, Heidi & Joey!  They share our home with a 17 year old cream mitted ragdall cat named Buddy! They range in age from 18 months to 2 1/2 years.  They bring so much joy to us and play together all day and flop at night and for a few naps during the day……I urge everyone to go to a shelter or rescue to adopt an animal and give it a loving forever home.  Animals add so much to our lives especially if you live alone, are retired or have an "empty nest".  Every child deserves to learn how to care for a pet, too.

Foxie my Red Rescue Chihuahua

Hello,
My little girls name is Foxie, she looked like a little red fox to me. She is a 4 year old that I was lucky enough to rescue from our shelter. I learned that she had been running the streets for several months, starving and dirty. A couple who had been watching her for many weeks finally got her cornered and took her to the shelter.
The vet said he thought she was about  9 months old at the time. I had gone to the shelter because I had lost my little Yorky Lunar that had been with me for 16 years. The minute I saw this little girl, it was love at first sight. I put in my application, as did several others, and I went to visit her every day. I even took my yellow lab to meet her and they took to each other immediately. I was about to leave that day when the people who ran the shelter sort of changed the rules of adoption and some how my name was pulled out of the hat as the winner:-) They knew how much she would mean to me, thank God.
Bless her little heart, she does have some eye problems and is slowly going blind. My Vet said there is nothing we can do, but she is handling it very well. Benny, the Lab, watches out for her and seems to be protecting her. It's so sweet the way he seems to clear her path and walk to the food and water with her. He even lets her sleep tucked up to his tummy.
I never knew Chihuahua's were so wonderful and loving…I feel blessed to have Foxie.
Thank you for your site and information, JK

Blitz the Chihuahua

Blitz the Chihuahua

Blitz was named by my husband in honor of the Seattle Seahawks' mascot.

He was born 3/22/09.
He has such a fun personality and is quite sure he's 300 pounds rather than 3#4oz.
I never pictured myself owning a little (what I used to call) drop-kick dog, but here we are and I am IN LOVE! He's captured the hearts of everyone who has met him. My husband actually initiated his induction into our family, much to the consternation of our cat and two older (and larger) dogs.
Chihuahuas are new territory for us, so I would like to ensure I'm doing the right things so we'll have him happy and healthy for a long long time.
We have some adorable photos on our website, too, if you click on "info" at the top right, then click on "what's new" and scroll down to June 15. Since my husband is a professional photographer, his photos are a bit better than what I'm including from my phone camera.

Gracie the Chihuahua

Gracie the Chihuahua

My puppy is Gracie!
She is 15 weeks old tomorrow!
I love her because she is the best dog ever.  She is such a sweet girl and listens most of the time.  We have been working so hard on potty training and we have finally gotten it.  YEAH!  She can be stubborn, but we can work through that.

Blackie the Chihuahua

Blackie the Chihuahua

Hi Sandra,

Here is a picture of my dog.  I look at other chihuahua dog,  and he makes me think he may be a mixed breed dog.  What do you think? It is because the pics I see are dogs that are so much smaller. Let me know what you think.

Thank you

Joanne

Pappi the Chihuahua helps me fight M.S.

Pappi the Chihuahua This is Papi.  He is 8 months old and weighs 2.2 lbs.  He is the sweetest thing on this earth.  I am disabled with Multiple Sclerosis, he is my constant companion.  I had a lot of trouble trying to sleep at night due to various reasons, but since I have had Papi I sleep very well with my little guy next to my heart.  He has helped me feel better and is my little soldier in helping me fight this disease.  So,  let no one question the power of a Chi for they are mighty.
