should I rescue a chihuahua?

-I hate asking/seeing questions down twice, but I want to have a piece of mind, and the lack of answers is disappointing. I'll delete this soon enough. Thank you.

Like I said, all the information is in the link provided.
I'm not much of a little dog person myself – I do prefer Great Danes over little dogs, but my real question here is… There are so many small dogs in the shelters [honestly, I'm not just concentrating on Chis.] and I have the capacity to care for one. If you read the contents of the link, do you think I should do it?

Sounds to me like you need to deal with the social behavior issues of your JRT first. Bringing in another dog into an unstable home where the pack leader doesn't have control of the pack is a really, really, really bad idea. If you have enough money to get another dog then you have enough money to create a better home & life for your two dogs now. It is not a good and balanced pack if you have a bad seed. That bad seed (JRT), isn't comfortable and happy!

While it's a noble idea to rescue a dog, it is even better to be a good pet owner and great pack leader for what you have.

Sorry, this isn't going to be your favorite answer but it's the truth! When you fix what you already have then go get another dog and I bet you wont even have to 'talk your parents into it' when they see that you are in control of a balanced well mannered pack (24×7).

That's not a lot of information to go on. I think that if you want a dog a rescue is an excellent choice.

All three of my dogs are rescues – all variations of border collie. I would never buy a dog because I don't have the time or the inclination to get into competitive herding and that's the only way I could justify it to myself. I enjoy border collies and there are so many in rescues and high kill shelters so rescues are the best choice for me. I got the breed I enjoy and I got to save three dogs' lives. It's a win-win situation.

I am sorry, but any "dog" that bounces when it barks, and just are nasty….no. It is not a dog, and again, sorry, they should never of created this thing. Would I have rescued it? Perhaps food for my Great Dane.

rescue….. you could but chihuahuas are a very difficult breed. tell me…have you heared of any of the following?
-colapse trachea! if they wear a collar (which they arn't supose 2,their trachea can collapse!
what about if you get water in their ears you could have a petentially fatal infection? or knee caps coming out of sockets?
hypoglemsia! low blood sugar (couldn't spell that)
anyways chihuahuas are great and rescuing are good too but i recomend getting a CHIHUAHUA from a breeder. trust me,my chihuahua was from a breeder and within the second week he was at the vet because of something i wasn't aware of. good luck!

Why do you need piece of mind to rescue a dog, either you really want to or not….it is up to you.

but if your having second thoughts about it now, what will you do with the dog once you actually have it…….the little dog does need rescuing by someone that is sure to give it a loving home, not worry about if I should or not in the beginning…it will only end up bad for the dog, if you are questioning yourself now….

it is a huge responsibility to take on, please make sure you really want this little dog, it has been through enough, does not need to get another home and then not be wanted/

so really, it is up to your heart and no matter what any of us say to you, I only ask that you make sure you can take the dog on, love it, care for it, and have it for the rest of its little life, so it will have a second chance of a wonderful loving home.

Good luck with your decision, but remember, it is what you want, not what someone tells ya to do…..

FROM THE HEART ON THIS ONE PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

I think you will do the right thing….

Can you make a commitment for the life of the dog? If not, walk away, it is crueler to give a hope of a home to a dog, and then abandon it again. I have a dog that was adopted from the Humane Society. I have never had a dog like her, she was abandoned by at least 2 families that I know of, and probably beaten somewhere along the line. When she came to our home, she was scared of everything!!!!! 5 years later, I could not ever ask for a better pet/companion.

Somtimes the best dogs o have are those that are rescued. For one reason or another, the owner doesn't want or can't keep the animal and all of God's creatures need a home!
