what age do female chihuahua dogs start to their periods?

my chihuahua dog is 8 months is this to young?

Dogs don’t get periods. She is ready to breed. You need to keep a careful watch on your dog because male dogs will be coming for her. If you don’t know enough about your dog to know about its reproductive cycle please don’t consider breeding her. You may love your dog, but responsible breeders know a lot about dogs, their breeding cycle and the dangeres involved with breeding their dogs. Chihuahuas are a high risk dog and often require c-sections. Get her nutered right away.

    Dogs do not get “periods”.

However, heat cycles can start as early as 4 months or as late as 2-3 years.

At 8 months, she’s old enough to be fixed. Be responsible and do so right away.

Every dog is somewhat different just like female people they all don’t start at the same time. Anytime after 6mn they can start.

My female rottie started when she was 9mn.

Just like the first answer said it can start as early as 4 months and as late as 2 years. I am not against dog breeding, and I have actually been breeding dogs for a number of years now and just keep in mind that if she does get pregnant smaller dogs are very likely to have high risk pregnancys and they tend to have a rough time delivering puppies. I am not telling you to spay her but just keep that in mind, it may be healthier for her not to breed.

Dogs don’t have periods. A period is what a human gets at the end of ovulation. Dog’s have ‘heats’ which occur during ovulation.

Dogs come into heat for the first time from 5-6 months of age, once or twice a year. Small breeds tend to come in earlier and have heats more often.

Please get your dog spayed once she has finished her heat. Obviously you’re not a breeder, so the only other option is spaying.

Ideally a dog should be spayed before the first heat as this gives the greatest protection against mammary cancer. Spaying at any age prevents pyometra. Please get you dog done to save her from these very common fatal conditions.
