Do chihuahuas get attached to a certain person?
I have heard chihuahuas get attached to a certain person is this true? Because he really enjoys everyone but is especially attached to me and follows me everywhere! And at times when hes cuddling with me when someone trys to take him from me he growels.
chihuahuas are very much a one person dog and will cling to that person. thats why a lot of people love these little dogs is because they can be extremely loyal but also like you said a little overprotective as well

Yes. Very much so. They're very loyal to one person. Usually it's the one who gives them the most attention and takes care of them. My Mom's chihuahua fell in love with me, because I held her more. She always jumped into my lap and curled up. They're very much one person dogs. Definitely lap dogs.

he's a dog. all dogs know their "owner" or whatever you call it. so naturally he would follow you around knowing you provide him shelter and food. hes a dog. its not breed specific. my pekingese is even more loving than your dog in many ways and hes not chihuahua in the slightest sense.

Yes they do. My sister works at a vets office and she said most chihuahuas get attached to one person. I had a friend whose chihuahua was just like yours…she would always follow him around but, she loved other people too.

Some do and some don't. Just like any other dog. I have owned Chihuahuas for more than 18 years, and while one or two seemed to favor a certain family member, others seemed to love everyone. Part of it is their individual personality and part is related to how they were socialized as a very young puppy. Chihuahuas are very protective though, so the growling when someone tries to take him is because he thinks he's protecting you. One of my Chihuahuas doesn't like others to try to take him from whoever's lap he happens to be sitting on at the time.

I believe all dogs are different. It really depends on the owner and how the owner is exposing this pup to the outside world. If you want to think about it, think of him as a baby. Now if a baby is always with his mother he will have the attachment for his mom and will not like other people as much as his mom. If the dog was exposed to everyone all the time when he was growing up, then he should be friendly to everyone. The growling occurs because he is protecting you because that's their instinct. For example, like a little kid with a toy he will protect his toy and won't let anyone get it. Try to grab something away from him that he likes and is playing with… I believe he will grow and show his protective behavior.

Yes and get really possessive, the good thing is they can't hurt you if they bite because they don"t have strong jaw muscles, they do get cranky ,

If you take the role as his mama then yes. Me and my sister have sibling chihuahuas and when I come home from college every weekend he sticks right by my side. But you might want to work on the growling because you don't want it to escalate into biting people.
