Do you know how delicate chihuahuas are, especially when they are puppies? My 4 pound, 1 and 1/2 year old chi is still extremely fragil, and will cry 5 minutes straight if she hits her head on a tissue box, or gets her nails clipped…

I honestly can’t see how that can be true…
If it was the case that the spinal cord would get damaged from the dog’s own weight being on it wouldn’t it then get damaged from getting stroked on its back by a human hand as well – which is a lot heavier than a newborn chihuahua’s 100-270gr.
The only way I can see that way of holding as being fatal is due to the pup’s natural straightning reflex which might cause it to roll out of the hands holding it and on to the floor…

Hi! I worried when …
Hi! I worried when I read your comment, but thinking a while and watching the video again it is clear for me it was on its side, not on its back. Anyway, saying 100% of the weight is onto its spinal column is totally wrong. It is kindly held by hand, so it is kept on a soft warm rounded surface rather than a flat and hard one. Even younger puppies turn around themselves with no pain and no damage at all, as you know if you happen to see them.

In the case of the 7 day old chihuahua however most of the bones within his body are still soft, and fragile. Turning the chihuahua upside down places 100% of the new borns weight onto its spinal column. Which is not yet suported by muscles is is comprised of soft bones.
A newbourn humans skull is malleable. When pressure is placed on the it, the brain is squished and bone structure is damaged.
When chihuahua lifted and turned over, it squirmed. In pain. As you have injured it.
